Description
Line-up: Vieux Farka Touré – guitar and vocals, Ousmane Dagno – ngoni, Adama Kone – percussion, Marshall Henry – bass.
Vieux Farka Touré has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in modern African music. When he returns to Cosmopolite, after his previous visit in 2024, it is with an expression that both carries the legacy of Mali and points forward.
Born in Niafunké and son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré, he found his own way into music – first in secret, later with his father's blessing. Today he stands firmly as an artist with a clearly individual identity, where the roots of desert blues meet impulses from rock, jazz and other African traditions.
Through albums such as Fondo, The Secret, Mon Pays and Les Racines he has developed an expression that is both grounded and exploratory. Collaborations with names like Toumani Diabaté, John Scofield, Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks and Khruangbin show the breadth of his project.
At the same time, he is more than a musician. Through his humanitarian work and his commitment to Mali's cultural life, he has also made his mark as a clear voice for the people and region he comes from.
Live, however, something special happens. Vieux Farka Touré is known for concerts with high intensity and strong presence, where the guitar playing drives the music forward with both power and precision. Now that he is back with us, it will be a concert where the guitar takes center stage – driven by groove, interplay and an expression that works just as well live as on record.
